Default R&R Propeller Shaft Flat Rate Hours

Just trying to find out what flat rate hours are for Prop shaft R&R. I understand this includes either s 2 or 4 wheel alignment. Work is being done under warranty FWIW.. 2015 Z06 A8

    HI there,

15.3 per Alldata and that does NOT include the alignment. I will tell you it takes me almost 20 hours to CORRECTLY do this job.

Paul, are familiar with the drive train vibration? Dealer did replace propeller shaft but vibration still there. Car is an 2015 A8 Z06 and I get a mild but noticeable vibration right at 2000 rpm whether accelerating or just setting with car in neutral or park. The vibrations feels like it is coming through tunnel...

    HI there,

I have diagnosed MANY DIFFERENT causes for this issue. And, the PICO SCOPE vibration analyzer is the ONLY way to accurately pinpoint a vibration source.

THAT is the most critical area. After that, INSTALLATION PER CORRECT SERVICE PROCESS with a torque wrench on EVERY fastener is required.

    Excellent reply. Thank you..

Have you seen any common denominators when it comes to isolating this issue? Assemble, flex plate, TC? The Vet Tech working on my car is well respected. With new Prop shaft and same vibration, it makes me believe the issue might be emulating for a different source.

    HI there,

Back to the point, use the PICO SCOPE and you will KNOW where the source is based on amplitude of the vibration.

Phase 2: They have redone PICOscope and TAC has now recommended a new harmonic damper. Have you seen the damper create a similar vibration? GM TAC also ordered a oil analysis. Going on two weeks and no info on when damper will be available or oil analysis result.

I have seen more than I care to admit as far as issues with all types of vibrations.

Yes, I am being vague deliberately here. The truth is that the PICOSCOPE is the truth, you cant lie to it and if they state harmonic balancer based on readings, I would back that determination.

I am not sure on the harmonic damper, I have not checked on parts availability, and I think they are doing the oil analysis just to assure there is nothing inside the engine to CREATE further issues.

    Paul:

Dealer installed balancer and claims PICO results literately perfect and they can go no farther. Unfortunately, I still have a vibration in 2000 RPM range, If PICO is perfect, what else could be causing the vibration.

I also have whine from diff at highway speeds when under load. It goes away when NOT under load. Tech states this is normal. I disagreed as after 11 C5-C7 Corvettes, none have had a vibration of diff noise.

    Your thoughts please.

    Thanks,

    Dave

    HI there,

My thoughts are something isn't right. I would also compare it with a similar vehicle that someone else may own and compare the 2.

I would contact Chevrolet or discuss it with the service manager.

I did have a discussion with service manager. I agreed if PICO was a flat line as described to me, I would accept that the driveline is not the problem. I stated, regardless, a vibration remains. Manager had no interest in pursuing the vibration. Car has remainder of 5-60. I would have paid if they were willing to pursue the vibration. He did indicate vibrations and diff whine is a norm of performance cars. At that point, I pointed out my ownership history and never having issues with other 10 Vets, 5-c5s, 3-c6s, 3-c7s

Regarding tech, I asked him to get car up to 50-70 mph and observe diff whine under load/no load. When I got car back, was told whine was normal. Ironically he drove car 3 miles to make this determination and there are no highways in immediate vicinity of dealership.

Are you suggesting GM Customer Care as next step?

    HI there,

I would find another vehicle like yours with similar milieage and similar powertrain.

Then, road test that vehicle in the same manner and see if the noises are the same.

Then, you can contact customer care after you are CERTAIN you can show to the dealership that it is NOT normal.

    Thanks Paul:

WE did a compare on diff noise. Dealer agreed to new diff assembly.
