On my 77 there is a converter or there was one? I had a clamp shear at the rear of the cat. The muffler shop would not replace the $70.00 clamp with out selling me a new cat for $400.00 dollars.( he said install was free)Is this legal in ct?

Catalytic converters became standard in 1975, I believe. It's when the switch to unleaded came about.

Most of the Corvette parts places sell them for less. But, of course, you'd still have to get it installed.
