Default 13345 Special policy EXPORT ONLY, NOT USA ELECTRONIC COLUMN LOCK

Subject: 13345 – Special Coverage Adjustment – Electronic Column Lock (Export Vehicles Only)

    Models: 2009-2013 Chevrolet Corvette

Export Vehicles (excluding Japan) Equipped with Electric Column Lock (NP7)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition: On some 2009-2013 model year Chevrolet Corvette export (excluding Japan) vehicles that are equipped with an electronic column lock (ECL) (NP7) may have a condition where the column lock may not unlock when starting the vehicle. This condition could prevent the customer from driving the vehicle because vehicle power would be inhibited by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The first time the failure is detected, a "Pull Key, Wait 10 Sec" Driver Information Center (DIC) message may be displayed. If the condition continues to be present, a "Service Column Lock" DIC message will be displayed with subsequent key cycles.

Special Coverage Adjustment: This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 193,000 kilometers, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

Dealers are to replace the ECL. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.

The column lock on my 1999 Corvette malfunctioned when the car was new - and stranded my wife and I while out-of-state on vacation. The car was subject to a satisfaction campaign, then a safety recall for the defective column lock system.

Now, 14 years later - there are still problems with the column lock system? Why can't GM figure this one out? Why have there been SO MANY problems with this system over the years?

The system was completely different than on your C5. And this is a special policy, to extend repairs covered on the system.

GM did figure it out, happy to say.

What have you done to eliminate the problem on your 2005. I have the same problem, column lock bypass worked for a year plus, but now the dreaded service column lock has returned.
