programing the c-6 fob

Hey guys I picked up a new GM fob this weekend and the dealer wanted to leave my car so they could program it,no way will that happen,I have the instructions on how to program and they seem fairly simple. Well when I got to step 6 ,turnning the key in the hatch area 5 times in 5 seconds nothing showed on the DIC. I know it says lower the drivers window pop the hatch open the glove box lay the old fob on the console with the new one away from the car and do the key bit,should I have the acc. on the ignition on?

It sounds like you got the wrong instructions.

Please follow this!


1. The vehicle must be off.
2. Both the recognized and new transmitters must be with you.
3. Insert the vehicle key into the key cylinder located above the license plate.
4. Open the hatch/trunk.
5. Turn the key five times within five seconds.
6. The DIC displays READY FOR FOB #2, 3 or 4.
7. Place the new transmitter in the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing the passenger side.
8. A beep sounds when programming is complete. The DIC displays READY FOR #3 or 4, or MAXIMUM NUMBER OF FOBS LEARNED.
9. To program additional transmitters, repeat Step 7. Press Acc. on the ignition switch if programming is complete.
10. Press on each newly programmed transmitter to complete the process

sounds pretty much like my instructions except the new fob being inside,I'll try it one more time,so the acc. should not be on right?

Yes, you start with the vehicle OFF.

But without the fob in the pocket, it cannot know its the fob it needs to program.

well I tried everything and am giving up,I have an appointment Saturday morning with the chevy service dept. to program the fob,I bought the thing from them for $166.00 and they want another $50 to program.Thanks for trying to help Paul.

Well.I brought it in to the local chevy dealer Saturday morning and they kept it all day,and all day Monday ,they tell me the car won't except the fob,at least I know it wasn't me.They gave me a loaner car and said they would get with GM on the problem.

Great, I have the same problem where the DIC will not respond. I spent an hour doing the 5 key turns, disconnecting the battery, checking the voltage, doing the 5 key turns, 3 pirouettes and sang the programing the key fob song. I will be interested to learn what the dealer has to do to correct the problem and how much it costs.

I think they were in contact with the GM factory rep who guided them through it. Works fine now.

Hi there,

It is a very detailed procedure and must be performed accurately.

Normally, I dont go that route, I just use the Tech2 and go about it that way.

Not sure Paul,but it would not accept the fob no matter what they did,works fine now.
